one of my goals for this summer was to read at least 5 new (to me) books because I have a tendency to read a new one and then go back and reread favorites. such a bad habit. but I’m pleased to say that I’ve already read 6 new books so far and have started on a 7th. (absolutely loving our library has helped me read a lot. I love going there and have found since I borrowed them I HAVE to read them instead of buying books and having them sit around).
so far this summer:
- - Little Bee (a wonderful novel about human struggles & triumphs. I couldn’t put this one down.)
- - Looking for Alaska (this one is a YA novel, I read it in a couple hours. an easy, okay read - I probably would’ve liked this a lot more had I read it in middle school)
- - I Was Told There’d Be Cake (collection of essays, many I could completely relate to!)
- - Assassination Vacation (travel writing — Sarah Vowell’s pilgrimage to different presidential assassination sites - I LOVED this.)
- - The Book of Lost Things (took a little while for me to get into it, but once he goes into the other world I was hooked. this book takes different, interesting takes on classic fairytales - very neat)
- - Brush Up Your Mythology (I’ve found my knowledge of Greek myths to be lacking, especially since last time I studied them in depth was middle school - eep! - and this was great to give basic overviews of titans, gods/goddesses, heroes, antiheroes, monsters, etc.)
Now to finish up my current book and onto the others in my library stack. Read anything good so far this summer? What do you want to read?
